Important Tax Dates

January 1, 2020 Earliest date for 2020 TFSA contribution of up to $6,000

March 2, 2020 Final day for 2019 RRSP contribution.


For taxpayers who died in 2019, final day for contributions to a surviving

spouse’s RRSP and obtain a deduction in Home Buyer’s Plan repayment due

Personal Tax Deadlines 2020


SELF-EMPLOYED

If you or your spouse earned business income in 2019 then your tax return is due Monday June 15, 2020.

Taxes owing are still due April 30, 2020 even though the actual filing of the return is not due

until June.


NOT SELF-EMPLOYED

If you and your spouse do not earn self-employment income, then your tax return and taxes

owing are both due April 30, 2020. This is the most common scenario for tax payers.

If you are required to pay tax installments in 2020, they are due:


• March 15th

• June 15th

• September 15th

• December 15th


June 15 Deadline to file HST returns for self-employed individuals with a December 31 yearend.


U.S. Tax Returns Deadlines:

April 15 Deadline to file U.S. individual income tax returns for 2019 or 6-month

extension requests.


April 15 Deadline to file 2019 report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts,

FinCEN report 114 (formerly FBAR), for U.S. citizens living in Canada.


June 15 Deadline to file 2019 U.S. individual income tax return for U.S. citizen or

resident alien residing abroad and U.S. non-resident with no withholding tax
